Why Ladies In The Field?

Ladies In The Field has been a long time in the making. Admittedly only a dream or a wish to begin with.

Being brought up in the countryside and the daughter of a gamekeeper and falconer – who also went on to be a very successful gundog trainer – it was only inevitable that this would spark a love for country sports and the country way of life for me.

In my school years, I found myself slightly different to everyone else my age as I had no real interest in sleepovers and barbies, instead I preferred ferreting or lamping. Being a teenage girl interested in shooting and country sports was, in my opinion, a pretty cool hobby, but I found this was something I had to enjoy on my own or with my Dad and Grandad, as it wasn’t a common interest with any of my friends or peers. However this didn’t bother me then and it doesn’t bother me now, it was my love and passion – and it still is.

Seeing the community today of young women coming in to all field sports is amazing! I would have really loved to have met some girls my own age to have fun, learn and grow into the sport with. From a young age I have enjoyed all types of shooting – to beating, dogging in – to training and running my own gundogs. Falconry has also always been an interest and I spent many summers grouse hawking on the Isle Of Lewis/ Scotland with my dad. I’ve also tried my hand at fly fishing! Long and short of it, I love any type of country pursuit and want to be able to share my love of it with the many other Ladies that are out there enjoying these sports too!

There have been occasions where I’ve not been taken seriously because I’ve been a young woman with an interest in what was a male dominated sport. At times I was shunned and almost ignored because I was a woman wanting to be involved in these sports but it didn’t stop me. And I am not alone in this either, many women I speak with have commented the same, that we almost get made to feel like we shouldn’t be there. But of course, if we let it stop us, we wouldn’t be where we are right now.

So, why Ladies In The Field? Well for years I have struggled to find decent women’s “practical” clothing, not just that but also a lack of choice too. I’d come away from the many numerous country shows and game fairs that I attend, frustrated at the amount of choice and endless options of men’s clothing and such a small choice for women. There would be a shirt that was too big and ill-fitted, and a pair of trousers that only Simon Cowell would wear! In this day and age, enough is enough.

The ranges of options for men spread over 90 pages in some catalogues, and for women’s clothing? 10 pages. Brands now are noticing that there are more and more women coming in to this industry and I’m pleased to say there are some amazing quality clothing out there, but finding them amongst the endless choice for men can be really frustrating and stressful. These companies are recognising the need to cater for women more and more, and so we hope to be able to bring brand new products to you as they come.

With Ladies In The Field, we aim to take that stress our of searching for suitable clothing and put it all in one place for you. We want to put the best brands in one location from clothing to footwear, accessories to gift ideas and even dog accessories.
